3 and a 1/2 stars

This movie has some of the most interesting, creative death scenes of any slasher film. And I love the clever, confident, and most importantly, competent lead character. Sadly, I think my enjoyment of this film lags behind my friends because I didn't see it until I was in my twenties, and I lack the nostalgia of feeling incredibly frightened of Freddy Krueger in a way that only a child can. Without that, this film drags during it's none-gorey scenes and I don't feel invested in anyone other than the protagonist. Freddy Krueger has a charm that Jason and Michael Myers certainly lack. He's more funny than scary as an adult. Parents, show your kids Nightmare on Elm Street before it's too late!

Extra half star for Johnny Depp's crop top.
